Honouring our Children: Gathering for Parents hosted by Kw’umut Lelum

Nanaimo, BC

This event for parents/caregivers of Indigenous children was held at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

Keynote Speaker, Andre Landry started the morning off talking about Indigenous kinship systems and her experiences as a parent. An incredible speaker and educator!

I was honoured to share space with Elder Marguerite James, who taught us about traditional parenting practices. It was a great day spending time with parents, caregivers, and service providers talking about infant development and infant mental health. I loved how engaged listeners were and the questions brought forward by folks were rich and thought provoking.
