Moving from suffering to flourishing
Life can feel complicated and hard sometimes. Having a place to process difficult emotions in the safety of a trusted relationship can make a big difference. Together, we can work though your challenges so life feels more manageable.
I am committed to offering that space that allows for exploration and healing through an anti-oppressive, trauma-responsive, and strengths-based lens. In our work together, you are the expert and we move at a pace that feels safe and comfortable for you.
In my clinical work, I lean heavily on the following evidence based approaches: NARM (Neuro Affective Relational Model), AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), Safe and Sound Protocol (Polyvagal), and attachment based modalities.
My experiences as a First Generation kid, and being raised with cultural beliefs that family relations are of the utmost importance, made it tricky to find counselling that was a good fit. I found myself having to explain why some therapeutic interventions weren’t helpful, or in fact harmful at times, because it didn’t take into account my unique context or my cultural worldview. For this reason, I am committed to creating a space that is anti-racist, safe for those who have experienced discrimination because of their gender or sexuality, and affirming of neurodiversity.
Welcome, I’m Yumiko.
